Dr. Lee's research interests include computational mechanics, sheet metal forming, geomechanics, and hygro-thermo-mechanical response analysis of fluid infiltrated porous media. He works closely with industry, students and faculty members from other departments for the sheet metal forming research. He was a co-organizer of the 3rd International Conference on Numerical Simulation of 3-D Sheet Forming Processes (NUMISHEET'96). His work on porous media and geomechanics has found new applications in electronic packaging reliability analysis, in conjunction with the probabilistic finite element method. He is a founding member of the U.S. Association of Computational Mechanics.

Dr. Lee has published over 90 research articles in the area of linear and nonlinear computational mechanics, in addition to numerous abstracts, presentations, and technical reports, resulting from over 30 sponsored research projects. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Edison Materials Technology Center, OSU Center for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing of Automotive Components, ALCOA Foundation, Cray Research, and other various industries.
