FACILITY & EQUIPMENT 

PMCL (Precision Measurement & Control Lab.) has 2500 sq. ft. of precision engineering space allocated in rooms W091, W096, W098, and W383 of Peter L. and Clara M. Scott Laboratory.

Laser Measurement:

  • Two Newport vibration isolation air table systems.
  •  A 6 axis laser interferometric system with 2 ZMI-1000 class ZYGO linear/angular compact interferometers, 2 linear interferometers developed in house, and one two frequency laser head.
  • One ZMI-4004 measurement boards and six ZMI-1000 measurement boards.
  • A VME Cage to interface the laser interferometer cards.
  • National Instruments VME-MXI-2 Cards to connect VME Cage to PC.
  • Optical components such as beam expander, beam scanning mirrors, beam splitters, fold mirrors, plane mirrors, beamsplitting polarizers, half wave plates, quarter wave plates and retro-reflectors.
  • An assortment of optical positioning equipment such as risers, prism holders, lens mounts, rotary and translational stages, and tilt platforms.
  • A 2-axis acousto-optic deflector and two VCO driver
  • A 2-axis Acousto-optic deflector and a dual VCO driver
  • Sanyo KSS-210B laser probes.
  • Thorlabs diode laser system and Thorlabs optical power-meter
  • A diode-pumped CW CrystaLaser with the wavelength of 1064nm and the maximum output power of 1W.

Motion Control:

  • Six-axis magnetically levitated stage.
  • Six-axis compliant motion control stage. 
  • Polytec PI nano-positioners such as a NanoCube XYZ nano-positioner, a PIFOC microscope objective nano-positioner, a LISA nano-automation stage actuator, and open-loop LVPZT chip translators.
  • Polytec PI PZT control systems such as sensor & position servo-control modules for PZTs, a computer interface & display module, and LVPZT amplifier modules.
  • Polytec PI 3-axes nano-positioner and 4-axes Digital controller with high speed PIO interface

Real-Time Controller:

  • dSPACE real-time control system (CP1104)
  • National Instrument PXI system with Labview real-time 7.1
  • A FPGA-based Ultra-fast digital controller (Floating point calculation, 2Mhz update rate, 14bit A/D, 14bit D/A, FPGA : Cyclone-II, Altera, San Jose, California)
  • A FPGA-based Ultra-fast digital controller (Fixed point calculation, 20Mhz update rate, 14bit A/D, 16bit D/A, FPGA : Stratix-II, Altera, San Jose, California)  

Optical Microcopy:

  • A Zeiss Stemi SV 11 Apo Stereo Microscope.
  • A Lieca DMLM Head Microscope Unit and a scanning white light interferometer system.
  • A Nikon TE2000-U Inverted Microscope with Bioptechs Delta T temperature control system
  • An Olympus motorized inverted microscope (IX81) & Hamamatsu digital camera (C4742)
  • A Zeiss water immersion objective lens Plan Apochromat 63x/ 1.0
  • A VisiTech Infinity high speed confocal imaging system

Scanning Probe Microscopy:

  • A 7280 DSP lock-in amplifier and a 5186 pre-amplifier from Signal Recovery.
  • A customized Scanning Probe Microscope.
  • A PicoPlus AFM (Molecular Imaging, Tempe, Arizona)
  • A MFP-3D AFM (Asylum Research, Santa Barbara, California)
  • A home-made Photonic Force Microscope
  • Several types of home-made Q-controllers.
  • Bioforce UV AFM-tip cleaner
  • SUTTER Instrument micro pipette puller and NARISHIGE Micro forge
  • Active Vibration Isolator (TS150, Herzan, Laguna Hills, California)

Scanning Electron Microscopy:

Coordinate Metrology:

  • A Cordax RS-30 DCC Coordinate Measuring Machine by Sheffield Measurement.
  • A Digital Light Processing (DLP) projection system from Texas Instruments incorporating the Digital Mirror Device (DMD) with SVGA resolution for projecting active, structured light patterns.
  • A Matrox Genesis high-performance imaging board with image acquisition, real time processing and display functionalities.
  • A Hitachi KP-M1EK black and white CCD camera with 756(H) x 581(V) pixels.
  • A Mikrotron High Speed CMOS Camera

CO2 Incubators:

  • Forma Series II 3110 Water Jacketed CO2 Incubator (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc.)
