Research

Our group works on a wide-array of problems that are often highly multi-disciplinary in nature. The research relies on fluid mechanics, heat & mass transfer, thermodynamics, chemistry, surface analysis, materials science, design, and fabrication. We build many kinds of microsystems and nanosystems for applications in water purification, energy generation, thermal management, and chemical and biological separations. In all research programs, we strive to answer both the fundamental questions that enhance scientific understanding of the problems and develop technologies and systems for myriad applications. The main goal of our research is two-fold: (i) address the pressing problems in public health and welfare, and (ii) educate ourselves, our students, and the public we serve.
