Thrust Area(s): Design and ManufacturingResearch programs are active in the major areas of fastenless assembly of plastic parts, the development and improvement of rapid tooling systems, design for assembly and manufacturing, product design, plastic part design, tolerance synthesis, and structural design. The Integral Attachment Program (IAP) has been formed by Professor Luscher as an industrial consortium to develop portions of this research. The goal of this program is to make dramatic increases in the performance of mechanical fastening systems of plastic parts. Specific research areas include assembly modeling and part nesting, analysis of snapfits, development of ASTM testing standards, and development of novel and innovative fastening features.
