Mobile Arm Support Project

Problem Statement

Proximal shoulder weakness is an impairment with numerous causes, ranging from spinal cord injuries to neurodegenerative diseases. Proximal shoulder weakness is often resolved with mobile arm support (MAS) devices. Existing MAS technology fails to meet the needs of consumers and caregivers as they are frequently described as uncomfortable, expensive, and difficult to use. Motivation for designing an improved mobile arm support includes: increasing low reliability, addressing current inadequacies, and improving consumer quality of life. Our project seeks to address the needs of consumers that current devices have been unable to meet.
